Filipinos don’t complain too much pain because they can tolerate too much pain. And that is stocism. You will expect them to be not asking too much pain medications. Also, most of the Filipinos here in the United states are Roman Catholic so there are no prohibitions like blood transfusion, etc. Filipinos take a bath daily and they are very particular with their hygiene, so if you’ll gonna take care of them, if u cannot provide daily baths, please give them a sponge bath. Filipinos are easy to get along with and always give them the oppurtunity to interact with their family if the patient’s condition permits. Filipinos value family/family ties. As to food, they like salty kinds of food with soy sauce like adobo. They are shy showing their body parts so if you will do a procedure, make it sure that you do it in private. If you talk to them, eye-to-eye contact while you smile at them is good. But doing eye-to-eye contact with them without smiling is a sign of disrespect. In caring for the elderly, call them with their first names as a sign of respect.

Filipinos are very warm people and hospitable. Even caring with strangers they gave their all. I guess it’s because of how we are raised. We are very family oriented and have a close ties with our relatives and families and friends.
