Being a non-Filipino but very much an admirer and enthusiast of Tagalog and Filipino dialects, I would hasten to say this:
If a person chooses to speak in Tagalog, speak using Tagalog words only, please don’t mix in English or American slang terms.
A good example to follow is Vice President Noli de Castro who speaks Tagalog fluently and with the most purity I have heard anybody who uses the language.
Pinoys can then really bone down and improve their knowledge of English to be able to acquire the better jobs and more clout in the global scheme of things, without forsaking their Filipino roots and culture.
keep speaking the native language. i don’t know that filipino is a language. there are many dialects of the philippines. there is a high school that offers it, and i think that’s a great idea. it would just depend on the demographic. if parents, better yet, students brought it up then maybe they could bring it into their schools.
what makes you say that the filipino language is deteriorating? is this based on a study conducted in the philippines?
personally, i do not think that the language is detertiorating due to the fact that a lot of filipinos are able to speak tagalog well including those who live in the different regions of the phils. considering the fact that filipino is being taught from elementary until college.
I beg to disagree. It’s not the Filipino language that’s deteriorating – it’s the English language in the Philippines. Filipinos used to be very good in speaking English. Now people from other Asian countries are beating them.
Done is an active verb. It signifies "pushing" rather than "pulling" – probably indicative of a pushy sort of personality. In the larger scheme of things the question should be "why?"
teach it to schools. its not fair that only french, spanish and those other sassy languages are being taught in schools. paglaban natin ang lenguahe natin! wooo!
when you say deteriorating you meant losing its value isn’t it? i have been in US for five years but i don’t think the language deteriorated here. when we go to places like malls, parks, fastfoods where we have the chance to meet fellow filipinos we speak in filipino and they would answer us in return. the language serves us well.
maybe your point is its deteriorating because some teens uses it improperly. by speaking it with english or the gays changing the words and make their own language out it. or those who knows how to speak the language but does not use it and pretend to be good in english eventhough their accents really show that they could speak filipino. why cant 2 pinoys just speak in filipino if they how to speak the language. i sometimes wonder.
someday i will teach my kids to speak the language too.
