What is the easiest way to learn Tagalog?
I have been learning words and phrases, but I still can't carry on a conversation in Tagalog. The confusion lies in the format. In English, we use past, present and future tenses, so Tagalog has been hard for me to grasp. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Haha..thanks Dick, I am dating a filipina, which is why I am trying to learn Tagalog. She can only teach me so much, ya know?

Look for Filipino friends online who can teach you Tagalog words.Talk to them and ask them to translate English words or phrases into Tagalog.I know slowly you will master "Tagalog" words and soon you will be able to handle any conversation with your girlfriend in Tagalog.
If your looking for more help in Tagalog translation, I’d be glad to help you anytime. I know how to speak Tagalog =)
Wish you all the luck in learning Tagalog and in dating the Filipina woman you like.
God bless you !!
practice speaking with kids, it’s applicable for any language or dialect.. Experts say one learn fastest this way bc of no inhibitions.
i’m trying to learn tagalog too!
heheheh.
but umm.. what’s been working for me in learning the language is to….
watch tagalog shows! and listen to tagalog songs! and listen to people talk in tagalog! try to recognize certain phrases being used repeatedly. try to note the occassion that the phrases are being sad, what are people’s reactions to the phrase ya da da… and then when you dont know what something means, just ask!
get drunk on Ginebra while sitting around a dead pig, chopping the leathery skin off it and singing karaoke with your 3000 new in-laws who will be happy to teach you Tagalog and laugh to hear you mispronounce things…but if they’re drunk too, it’s really fun and you’d be surprised at how much actually sticks in your brain.
Basically, my point is to have a good time…you always learn faster when you enjoy it. You can learn such words as Utot…hahaha…the kids like to laugh when you make Utot.
In a way it is sorta like English, that is how my Filipino friend describe it. However I do find it odd that they repeat a syllable to mean past or present tense. Perhaps you can think of a sentence in English and then try to figure out how to say it in a backwards way, but still have the same meaning.
Just learn these phrases:
"medyo"
"yung anu"
"parang anu kasi yung anu"
"ah yung anu yun"
These can answer almost any question. Then you’ll have a good start. :]
Only with time and alot of practive will your learn. Get a good Tagalog Book and constantly try to talk in tagalog with your girl. I know for an english speaking person it is hard but you will slowly get the hang of it.
try to learn Tagalog with Rosetta Stone…
there are no strictly established rules on how to construct a sentence or conversational lines since at present time one line can be scrambled in several ways and still get the same meaning/message (and sometimes emotions are involved in reconstruction to emphasize what the person feels when he speak). the best way, i suppose, is to expose yourself in a filipino community where tagalog is widely used. listen and observe. dont hesitate to ask questions….and learn things one at a time. but if you cant, i can give you exercises in which you will give me an english sentence, then i will provide you all the words needed to construct a tagalog equivalent. then i will let you construct it using the words provided, then i examine your newly constructed line and then tell you what’s wrong and how it should be arranged. or ask your girlfriend to give you this kind of exercise. lemme know if this helps.
