Hi Jeannette, I think the best and easy way to learn Tagalog or Ilocano or any language is thru hanging out with relatives and friends who speak them. I’m in MI so I don’t know any language school in Chicago area. You can learn Tagalog/ Filipino with online softwares like Rosetta Stone. There are also social networking sites and online resource for learning foreign languages like italki.com.
I am not born in the Philippines but I’ve learned Tagalog and Ilocano first from Filipino local friends. Tagalog and Ilocano cuss words are the first words I learned then I started hearing attentively when my friends are having conversations and I often ask what each words mean. If you can easily pick-up common Tagalog words then constructing a sentence is easy since Tagalog sentence pattern and structure is the same as English.
tagalog is just easy to learn. mostly the words originate from espanol,. try asking your mom about wat she’s talking about.. then u’l gradually learn =)
I suggest you try buying the software from ROSETTA STONE http://www.rosettastone.com/personal/languages/tagalog
go einchen
or you could around here
I live in North Suburban Area of Chicago… maybe I could teach you sometime… through phone or e-mail… or maybe, you could just ask your mom’s relatives or friends to teach you… that way, it would be easier…
schools don’t teach it, The best way for you to learn is slowly get your mum to teach you and seriously commit. Also buying afew books will help also. It will take quiet awhile to learn it at a basic level but its achievable.
I’m from California residing int eh Philippines, I’ve had Tagalog all my life, it was spoken, but sadly, I only knew english, and only knew how to understand tagalog, lately it has been bothersome to try and learn it in our "Balikbayan Class" but I remember in my home town, Daly City, there’s a highschool, Westmoor, that teaches night classes on Tagalog, or Mandarin, anyways, in Chicago, you can probably ask your Mom to teach it to you, or just research online…
Best way to learn it is through conversation. Talk to your mom.
you have no school next year from june to august 28 of 2009 take that & go the phillipines & learn it from where it all came from.
