Tagalog pronunciation?
I have a (Filipino) student whose last name ends in "cillo," and his mom pronounces it "cillio." Is this a traditional pronunciation?

we pronounce it as "silyo"
not "thiyo"
Commonly, spanish pronounciation is ciyo.
Americans pronounce it as cilo.
Filipino do pronounce it as cillio.
A very good example is the fastfood chain Pollo Loco.
Spanish pronounciation is Poyo Loco
American pronounce it s Polo Loco
Filipino pronounce it as Polio Loco
The older his mom, the more traditional it is.
well its pronounce as silyo. or cillio. its all the same
It’s pronounced as sil-yo as in million.
we pronounce the double "l" as lio
in filipino double L is usually pronounced as (ly) like Astilla (as-ti-lya)…
but some though if stuck with american heritage or someother country stick with just the l sound.
yup your correct silent "i"
pronounce it how his/her mom’s pronounce it. to show respect : ) cuz if you pronounce it the spanish way, mom might get offended pronouncing the name differently from what the family was used to
it should be pronounced as sil-yo.
agree!
That’s correct. If it’s a Filipino surname, then it’s pronounced as "sil-yo" or something that sounds like that.
c",
Yeah thats right. Actually, its a Spanish last name.
Yes it is. Like Padilla is pronounced as "Padilia" and villa is pronounced as "vilia". i gues It may have come from the Spaniards’ influence for 300 years.
