You will need to purchase the book "BASIC TAGALOG" by Paraluman Aspillera, published by Tuttle Publishing Corporation in Vermont.

It costs just 20 US$ and thousands of foreigners have learned Tagalog through this – no tapes or CD’s required.

Itong libro lang ang kailangan mo para makasalita ng matatas na Tagalog!
(This book is all you need to speak in fluent Tagalog)!

I think it’s waaaayy too hard to try it on your own, or just with books. You’ll find they mostly focus on proper speaking, not necessarily the way people really speak. I tried it that way for about 6 months, books, cds, even subliminal cds, then broke down and took a class here in los angeles for about 8 months. Even after that I am still just intermediate in speaking. It really helped having a native speaker explain things to us.

In case you’re really committed to doing it that way, i’ll edit this post later with the names of all the books and CDs i have.

Hi,

Good for you having a go at Tagalog. I have always found that if you start off with the common ‘niceties’ like – hello, good morning, thank you etc & then listen for words that crop up in conversation often & find out what they mean. A great resource for English to Tagalog & Tagalog to English is Bangsa.

If anyone can buy for $200 the Rosetta Stone from the British Museum, I’d chip in $20 for a ten percent share.

Added: "In essence, the Rosetta Stone is a tax amnesty given to the temple priests of the day, restoring the tax privileges they had traditionally enjoyed from more ancient times." Therefore, I can only conclude you want to learn Tagalog hoping to get a tax amnesty from the BIR. NO WAY!

I forgot how i got it but i know if you type it in google you will find it.
Its free…..and it is quite good
