I have a Filipino lover. Can anyone give me some phrases that may turn him on in the Tagalog language and then the meaning in English.

I am a 21 y/o white American Citizen (born in the U.S) and have spent several years living in the Philippines. I am fluent in the Tagalog language and have become familiar with Filipino culture. Currently I am in the process of enlisting in the Marine Corps but was wondering if there would be other options such as working with the State Department or the U.S. Government to utilize my skills. Any advice would be much appreciated!

I want to pick up on some of the Tagalog language before I go visit my bf's family in a few years. I seem to be pretty good with languages and I have someone who can help me, but I wanted to buy a good textbook to help me out structurally and I don't want to waste my money on a crappy one. Does anyone know of a good one?

Is there a difference between Filipino language and Tagalog language and is it true, from The Philippines being colonized by the United States, that they're second National/Official language is English, correct?

i speak english very good but not fluently and i still got an accent because most of the time i speak tagalog so im just wondering can somebody help me where i can learn english perfectly and maintain my tagalog language....

I know 40% of tagalog language are loanwords from spanish,so i guess it is easy for a filipino to learn spanish,and is there spanish training center in philippines,and where?

such as the word tagapaghatid,tagapagbalita,tagapaglathala,

so many words are formed as tagapag,so i guess tagapag is a prefix in tagalog language,is it?

I was curious about this because during Dr. Rizal era he is using Spanish languages especially in his writtings like his ultimo adios and the two books, Noli and Fili. And if Tagalog was use during this time how come there are no known Tagalog piece or poem or any form of writing that was in Tagalog. I suppose everybody is speaking in Spanish and not Tagalog. I bet even Bonifacio is fluent in Spanish. Because he was once called a MISTISO. A mixture of Spanish and Filipino feature. The only thing I pity is why didn't we adopted 2 foreign languages, good in Spanish and also good in English at the same time fluent in Tagalog. We have all the advantages especially visiting Latin American countries like Ecuador, San Salvador, Chile, Peru, Brazil, Guatemala, and Europe like Spain, Portugal etc....can you provide a website that talks about Tagalog emerging language in the Philippines during the 17th century? I guess there are no person or persons dig further on the Tagalog subjects during these era. Is Rizal more concern of making Spanish the national language of the Philippines? I understand we have lots of different regional dialect like Ilokano, kapangpangan, bisaya at iba pa and the Tagalog language makes us more unfied in some sense. What do you think?

As i said, im filipino.. but i cant speak the tagalog language and i would reeeaaally like to learn how. I am hearing all of my family members speak tagalog and i can sort of understand, i know words, but i dont know how to use it in a sentence, and i cant really have a tagalog conversation with someone. What is the best way for me to learn Tagalog online, that is FREE? And i cant get Rosetta Stone.

I know that the Philippines constitution changed the official language to be known as Filipino, which is based off Tagalog, but are there any major real differences? If Filipino is based off Tagalog, is Tagalog based off another language such as Latin-based or Malay-based?

I ask this because I've seen Filipino-Americans arguing over this. I've noticed how some people point out that the official Filipino languages uses certain letters that are absent with the actual Tagalog language.

Then there was this big argument in class where one person from the Philippines said that Filipino is the Official language and not Tagalog...while a Filipino-American kept saying "no it's Tagalog! since it's based off Tagalog...therefore Tagalog is still the official language"!

I also saw some kids arguing about it too, one set of kids kept calling it Filipino while others kept saying "it's Tagalog". Some have said "FILIPINO isn't even a language, it's TAGALOG!"

There seems to be a lot of confusion with Filipino identity in the U.S., and the language is part of it.
