What does this Filipino phrase mean: "kaluguran daka din sobra."
Thanks for any help. ![]()
I am a Caucasian guy and I am trying to speak Tagalog in the Philippines. I get all kinds of weird reactions. Some 20% of people answer in Tagalog. Some 20% just stand there shocked turning and mumbling to others near them: "Marunong sya magtagalog, marunong sya magtagalog" or repeating that phrase to me and not answering the question that I ask them, some 50% stubbornly answer in English- they look uptight, tense as if they are facing a teacher and some even stand at attention. The others start acting weird- they go" yeah, yeah" ( instead of saying oo, oo) and some even start swaggering and limping and acting like hip hop gangsters- "yo, what's happenin' maaaan".
I have to battle it daily in my struggle to speak Filipino to Filipino people in the Philippines. So, could you please help me with these phrases by translating them?:
Can you please just act natural like you would with any other person?
Can you please stop acting like a gangster?
Can you please stop swaggering?
Please treat me as an equal.
Please treat me like anyone else.
Please stop acting uptight and just relax and talk to me like you would talk to anyone else.
Please don’t give me special treatment, I am just a regular person.
Never mind Tagalog, could you please just answer the question.
If so, I was hoping you could translate a phrase for me. I'm getting married to my girlfriend who is half Filipina and her parents want me to "formally" ask them if I can marry their daughter, so I thought it would be cool to ask them in Tagalog. Anybody know how to say something like, "With your blessing, I would be honored to have your daughter’s hand in marriage” or something to that extent? Can you write it in English phonics so I can pronounce it?
Thanks!

I'm not talking about "mano po", the cultural sign of respect. I mean the religous way of saying it, as if asking God to bless me. But I just want "bless me" and not some other similar phrase. If there is a short way of saying it, that would be wonderful. I'd like it short, but definitely correct.
what does the "nyo" mean? because someone also told me it was just "Pagpalain ako." I know po is a sign of respect though.

what is the difference between basbasan; pagpalain, and paginghawahin
Tagalog is the most common Filipino dialect. It's sort of ironic how i'm filipino myself, and i don't even know how to speak it fluently! XD (i totally understand it COMPLETELY, though...)
so anyways, if you guys could tell me versions of the casual and formal ways to say this phrase, that'd be awesome. Salamat Po! (thank you) <--see, i know SOME of the language...;]
Luv ya'll! ![]()
<3, bellaaahhhFUNt (:
please define the meaning of the phrase "apay ka agunget"....i am an american who had a vacation in the Philippines and someone said those words and i dont understand...
How do you say "I don't feel good" or "I feel like crud" in Tagalog?
Talking more emotional than physical, if there is a difference. Knowing the physical phrase could be useful too.
Just doesn't seem like there is too much to tell how you are feeling in Tagalog... from the bit that I've studied so far.
Paki at salamat.
Its not like a broken heart type emotional.. just.. not feeling good.
I wanna tell my cousin something on facebook about this guy in tagalog so he won't understand lol, but im not sure how to say it. i can understand tagalog better than i can speak it lol.
this is the phrase i want translated..
"Don't talk to him, he's lame and a player"
lol yea random i know..haha.
well i hope to hear from you all..thanks!!!!
I'm writing a song based on my interpretation of the heroe's last poem. The music is in place, as well as my own interpretation of each of the 14 passages of the pentameter, though I patterned after Bonifacio's 4 by 12 syllables. But I am confounded by the best way to say it in Pilipino.
I have studied the works of Gatmaitan, Joaquin, etc. but I just can't find the phrase with "perfect certainty".
Can you please try to help me out on this?
Thanks, Allan.
I just found how to. It's the Add Details button I'm looking for.
Ok, Folks out there. I need a single line of 12 syllables in Tagalog/Pilipino (if strictly Tagalog, the better), e.g.,
Sa dilang lungkot ko'y kalungkot-lungkutan
Or
Sa madlang hapis ko, aking kalungkutan
It must end in "an".
Thanks.

Hello, I have three friends who speak Filipino, and I want to impress them. Does anyone know of a website where I can type in a phrase and it will SPEAK it to me in Filipino? Please help! Thanks.
I want to ask someone (in Tagalog) who speaks Tagalog how to say a particular English word or phrase in Tagalog. In Spanish this would be something like, "Como se dice en Espanol...car?" and they would say, "coche" or "kotse".
Phrase needed to translate:
"Do you understand?"
Please and thank you. (:

Oh and I'm learning Tagalog...can someone tell me some common sentences used in the Philippines?
I've been trying to increase my Tagalog skills lately. How ever I'm doing a pretty lousy job thanks to my lack of resources. Anyway, I have some questions about a specific sentence.
This morning I herd the phrase "Masakit ang ulo ko." which I know (or think I know) means my head hurts. But I don't actually understand the vocabulary.
Ang means the?
I'm mostly filipino, he's half filipino. I don't speak tagalog, nor does he. But I thought it would be fun to say a short phrase. For example "Gusto Kita!" = "I like you!"
What do you think?
My neighbours are nice Pilippinos but sometimes they are very noisy and since I like them but they don't understand what I say i'd like to talk in tagalog. In the future i want to study Tagalog but Now i really need this simple phrase.
Please help me!!!
