i love filipinos :]
haha, and i think it would be interesting to learn the language.

Philippine bishops to campaign against pro-birth control candidates;
The Filipino Catholics acknowledges the communion of Saints as it is in their apostle's creed.

Bloody Mary died, and it is Elizabeth who is barren, in spite of the Spanish throne.

If you are an old man, listen Zechariah; so that the Filipino Catholic church will speak in English. Stop separating Luke 1:22 as if you know how to separate the alpha-particle from the omega and that the past has suddenly transformed you into a radioactive Asian.

But then, Filipinos could remain with King Juan of Spain who was bred by Franco to be a fascist king.

King Carlos Juan turned out to be democratic king rather then fascist king. This may mean that he may even allow his followers to be Juana; anything natural could happen as anything could happen in a pygmy forest.

If this English cannot be understood and is to be protested, what prevents the Filipino pygmies from nominating Conquistador Caligula who will appoint five dogs to congressman positions as president?

I shall return because the Filipino Catholics believe in the communion of Saints.

Except for those filipinos who are answering here.
oh yeah..... i almost forgot, filipino,i'm only asking those foreign guys who are answering at Yahool answers

I mean a lot of people want to learn chinese, korean, and especially japanese but the only people who want to learn tagalog are filipinos that were born in america or somethin

Why do filipinos use so many english words in their language?? Numbers, days of teh week, etc etc etc If this was done in french or german or russian or any other major language - people would think you lack culture or litteracy... whats up with that?? Why so many english words? its like they have no culture of their own
prove me wrong instead of just calling me an idiot
Dimitri, but doesn't the fact alone that a language has so few of its own words point to the fact that this culture is bankcrupt, backwards?

I already speak English and Spanish (Mexican dialect) fluently, and I want to learn another language. I have a lot of Filipino friends, and have been told that filipinos are basically asian mexicans. So, is it a difficult language to learn?

Are there places where I could learn it?
ok, so, in no way did that answer my question. i know they are not mexican. its just a joke, since my mom is mexican, and the girl i was talking to is filipino.

Some people I talk to say that it only implies to people who are 50% Filipino and 50% something else. Some others say that it applies to light-skinned Filipinos, or even Filipinos who have probably less than 5% of "non-Filipino" blood. Are there any precise definitions or does the term apply to all of the above?

I'm Filipino born here in America and I have a lot of friends that are too. We all have one thing in common in that we can't really understand Tagalog except when it comes to short phrases, curse words, and foods. Is there a reason for this? Because my mom just gets annoyed when I ask her about it. :P

Apparently it's common because most of the American Filipinos I meet don't speak the language. It makes me sad sometimes because I wish I could talk to my relatives in the Philippines in Tagalog but I can't.

When I mean stories, I mean from novels down to the short stories....
I want to know if there are still people out there who write and read books in Filipino... I want to read Filipino books to widen my Filipino vocabulary so that I can write a story in Filipino.... I've always found Filipino ... (its so indescribable!!!)..... sweeter than English....
Correction: Do you read any Filipino books?
Hey, Joe C!!!! Filipinos DO have a written language!

Dialect- Linguistics. a variety of a language that is distinguished from other varieties of the same language by features of phonology, grammar, and vocabulary, and by its use by a group of speakers who are set off from others geographically or socially.

Like English in the UK and in the US; or Spanish in Spain and in Argentina. They speak the same language but different dialect.

Now how could these be similar?

(good morning)

Tagalog: Magandang umaga
Ilocano: Naimbag nga bigatyo
Hiligaynon/Ilonggo: Maayong buntag
Kapampangan: Mayap ayabak

They clearly differ in phonology, grammar, and VOCABULARY. I think the Commission on the Filipino Language should have known better before declaring each indigenous "dialects" as dialects. It just makes most Filipinos unaware of what a dialect really is.

Do you agree?

Why do people think that Filipino is the language of the Filipinos????? Did you even bother to research???? I am a proud Filipino and I am getting bothered by your answers that say, Filipino is the language of the Filipinos... FYI, It's Tagalog. I am not getting mad I am just correcting.

I don't know why but I always get filipino and mexican guys that flirt with me. (I mean like filipino and mexican born/american immigrant) It's always so different that when I get hit on by other guys. I always get charmed and flattered by these guys. Only thing is that because I'm so used to getting rude/disrespectful comments and techniques from (blacks and well we'll say most americans in general. I'm black but its not only black guys that are rude) that I don't know how to respond to guys that are actually being respectful. I usually end up keeping my mouth shut and laughing a lot. I'm never quiet and if the constant laughing creeps me out, i know it has to creep the guys out. I never did like the nervous laughs. And the whole culture thing doesn't help. I don't know how to respond to a filipino my own age since the only time I've been around filipinos are the teachers at my school. I'm around mexicans/lations/hispanics all the time but that doesn't beat the mexicans who talk to me most of whom barely speak english with heavy accents at that. Oh yeah, can't study spanish until next year. P.S. I am in my late teens.............Help????

any filipinos out there to help. please?

Wait, there's more. "I have a better idea. Instead of asking random filipinos on this site, wouldn't it be SOOOO much easier to learn the language instead? I mean SERIOUSLY, HOW HARD IT IS????? I had to learn MANDARIN in High School, ok? Go to Future Shop, and find a program called Rosetta Stone. OR you can hire someone to teach you the language." Yeah, how do you translate that, I'm havin' trouble, even though I'm filipino.

I've been living in the US for almost 30 years and my Tagalog has gotten better over the years. I can speak better Tagalog than most Filipinos in the Philippines, I wager. I came to the US when I was 10 years old.

Now why do some kababayans pretend to lose it so suddenly? Like this one woman I met. She moved here 3 years ago when she was 21. Now she's struggling with her Tagalog. I say puwet, she says poo-wat. I think I rolled my eyes so hard, I displaced them. :P

What is that one trait that makes us uniquely Filipinos?

Or would you rather write about our trait that has been grossly misunderstood by foreigners (examples: our manana habit, our tendency to be late, etc.)

Foreigners living in the phils, have you learned to speak tagalog, how long did it take you to learn? How do filipinos react to you when you speak their language?

She's told me its hard for her to speak in "Tugalog" but she can sing in Tagalog fluently......I don't get it? We talk to her in Tagalog, we watch Wowowee and MMK together so she can understand the language. Any tips to get her to start talking to us in "Tugalog"?
franz: she's only 4. at home, english is her primary language; her dad is white. when she goes to her lola's house, tagalog is the spoken language there. there's not a single child in her preschool who could speak tagalog-they're all non-filipinos.
hurjay_3: walang ibang bata sa bahay kundi sya lang. kaya hanggang tv na lang kme. nagustuhan nya yung kokey kahit corny.
joeyboy: you're right!
i love all of your insights! thank you!

The Philippines, in the past few years, have been the favored as site for many BPO companies in the US. As a result, the sales and customer service agents Americans reach are more and more likely to be Filipinos. Some say we, Filipinos, compared with Indians, speak betterand more grammatically correct English, and likewise are easily understood by Americans. Conversely, it is said to be that Filipinos also are able to comprehend English more than Indians. I do know that proficiency in English depends largely on an individual's skill on the language, and not on nationality. But there are certain factors, especially with regards to exposure to the language, that puts the Filipinos in favor.

I was watching a show called ASAP, I noticed some of the hosts just never say in Tagalog?(or Filipino)
Such as Martin Nievera(not sure the his name)....

Or Gary V? most of time he speaks English also.

Do they actually speak Filipino?
or they just like speaking in English ?

Or English is for upscale Filipinos?

Thanks!
or Which language do they actually speak?

My friend, who was born in the US and is now in the Philippines, wants to learn to speak tagalog fluently. He said he has learned a bit just by speaking with other Filipinos, but wants to learn more. He wants to take classes, ideally in a classroom setting, with other non-tagalog speaking foreigners as classmates. Is there one in Quezon City or around that area?

Any technology that influence the Filipino language. Mostly for Filipinos.

Well, I'm half Filipino (on my mom's side, of course) and my dad is an American. And every time her and one of her sisters or one of her Filipino friends talk on the phone, she talks so loud! And while we're at Wal mart, she talks so loud in her native language, people keep staring at her in the store. I just wonder why Filipinos talk so loud on the phone.

just curious... and yes I know about the American occupation there and everything, but we here in Australia don't say we speak english like the people in England. There is clearly a difference. I work with some Americans and Filipinos and there is a noticable difference. My Filipino collegues insist that they speak American-English and none of us here in the office have said a word otherwise. Just curious...

I am in the US Navy and witness something that offended me.I am Mex-American.This two Puerto Rican guys were talking in spanish in the ship and this Senior chief flipped out and chewed them out and was screaming saying don't speak that s*** here.He is a filipino and talks Tagalog most of the time with the other chiefs in front of other people who don't talk that language.I did some research but cant find anything.I don't have anything against filipinos but it really gets me mad because it seems they get exempt from these rules.

Any pointers on this would be of great help. I am in the midst of lots of filipinos and I want to explain a recipe to them.

Thanks in advance,
Seeker

Filipinos out there!!!>.......could someone translate this paragraph for me....... " Have you ever thought about killing anyone? You may think that question is crazy, but that question crosses the minds of millions of pregnant women everyday in the United States. No matter how you say it, abortion is the killing of a life. In this informative paper, you as a reader will come to understand the facts on abortion and then understand where I stand...........No matter how you say it, abortion is the killing of a life. In this informative paper, you as a reader will come to understand the facts on abortion and then understand where I stand." ...well ...i'm filipino too...i flunk translations.. .......just a couple of translations then...5 pts here ya go!!!!.............................................................................................but is also started it as "Naisip niyo na bang pumatay nang kung sino-sino?...then???????? what??? ? ok ........

*For me, the Philippine government do not pay attention with regards to the distribution of Philippine literature in the country. Why?

* We all know that Philippine literature helps a lot to raise our national language. How?

*Nowadays, Filipino language is being snobbed by Filipinos themselves because they weren't able to use it especially to those educated people. Why?

*Some Filipinos are also fond of reading materials which are written in English rather than in FIlipino. Why?

*Before, some Filipinos patronizes the Philippine literature, but now, they do not want to read more of it & spend their time with it. Why?

We Filipinos are taught that the language tat we use today borrows words from other languages such as Malay, Spanish and some Chinese. So now the question is which of those languages contributed the most to Filipino the way we know it today?
Btw I curious about this fact because I think it will help me to decide what foreign language to study since it may be easier due to the similarities.

thank you all for your help.

Tagalog is the language of the philippines. Can any Filipinos suggest some really good websites i can go to i want to learn my language even more than i already know.i know a lot i want to learn more.

I wanted to know if Seth is filipino, mexican, chinese, or something. What is he? And I also noticed that the show "Family Guy" talks about filipinos alot of times. Like "He's filipino" or "You came from manila, you ate (a filipino food that i forgot what it was), you had sex with 2 filipino girls and a filipino man" I mean, seriously!!! Always! Even on the Family Guy news!
