The Filipino boxer's English is too good to be true. Everybody in the Phils. knows Filipino boxers barely graduate high school and has a shitty English....the "allegedly" Filipino boxer also mentioned Pacman injects it in his UPPER QUADRANT. Haha. No Filipino boxer would know that medically specific term, least to speak a decent English. Even native speakers would not typically use "upper quadrant" in a statement as most don't know what that means....it's obviously to make that bogus rumor believable. LOL.

Assuming it's translated....the translated version still would hardly equate a Filipino language version without changing much of the English version the way it was delivered. LOL.

People tell me that Tagalog/Filipino language sounds as if it were the Chinese of Southeast Asia, meaning it sounds kinda like Chinese, but for SE Asia. I sorta understand what they mean though, because the "aw" in a word is pronounced "ao", and "ay" in a word is pronounced "ai" (like the word laway. (pronounced LAO-WAI)) It was even mistaken for Japanese once or twice (it happened to me before, don't know about others.) For example, it has the "ah" sounds, "ai" sounds, "eh" sounds, & "oh" sounds. I dunno though, what do you think? I completely disagree with those statements that it sounds Spanish. In my opinion, that's only because of the different Spanish vocab. If anything, we have more Chinese vocabulary/Chinese sounding words then Spanish (we have words originating from Hokkien, Fujianese, Cantonese, etc.) I don't know though. What do you think? Does Tagalog/Filipino=Chinese of Southeast Asia, or sound similar to Chinese/Japanese? Please help! :)

To clarify, I am a white male, and have dated nothing but Asian women since I started pursuing girls in high school. If beauty in in the eye of the beholder, then my reason is this: I find the almond eyes, the facial features, and body types appealing. In Filipino women I find the darker skin very sexy. But my attraction is not superficially skin deep. I can speak Tagalog fluently as well as Japanese, and just because they might be Asian, thats not reason enough for me to jump on the first one I see. I value the cultural background & personality as most important. So if I'm attracted to features that just so happen to fall under the race category would It still be considered being racist? Curious on your thoughts.

Hello World,

I have been learning other language songs (International language – Spanish, Filipino& Arabic) from past 1 year and it interests me very much.
Example: Bebot song from Black eyed peas – was Filipino, Opening song from the movie “Desperado” was a Spanish song.
Can some music experts or enthusiast or learners suggest me some good website or list of songs which are good to hear and popular too?
Thank you very much in advance assistance much appreciated.

ed with them, and they talk **** about Filipinos on internet saying that were ugly and our food sucks...Honestly I think Mexicans are full of layered fats, and they're skins isnt as clear as Filipino does, and theyre frigging heights are honestly really of a dwarve's height, Must look in the mirror and see your Poop looking selves...your history aint really a pretty race!!!
Well If you can look at a REAL MEXICAN I'm talking about they arent really that tall or have a porcelain skin not unless they're MIXED! I can see a bunch of Mexicans here walking around with their kids or some family & even with guys I can see that I'm taller than them...
@East indian American, I don't think mexicans could ever be part mongoloid cause those kinds came from Asia, and it definitely doesn't really fit they're looks cause even mongoloids looks better than them...

Next year, I will be enrolling for a Korean class. I really want to learn Korean and it's something that I love and want to learn.
But, I live in Canada and our two official languages are French and English.
You at least have to have 1 French credit to graduate High school. Also, in grade school they teach French every year.

I have been in Canada since Grade 4 and I am now in Grade 9.
I took French this semester and I am planning on taking the Grade 10 course next year as well. It is a benefit if I can speak/understand French here in Canada, and I will have a better chance at getting a job later on. I'm not really interested in French, and I'm just taking it for the benefit. However, this would mean that I would be taking Korean and French at the same time. I don't want to give up either of them.

Will it be alright to learn 2 languages at once?
If I do decide to take both courses, I would have French for 5 days (Mon-Fri.)
But, Korean classes for only 1 day. (Saturday)
What should I do?
Won't I learn French faster since I will have it everyday compared to Korean which I will only have for one day?

Also, if I don't take the Grade 10 French Course this year, I would not be able to take it in Grade 11 or 12, since I would need to have a Grade 10 Credit, my only choice would be to take it in summer school if I decide to take it in Grade 11.

Another thing, I heard it's good if I can find a native speaker of the language I'm trying to learn and get help from them and that it's also good to use the language a lot and surround yourself with it. But, I speak Tagalog a lot because of my friends and family, I don't want to forget how to speak my native language, like my little brother. (Since he was still very young when we moved here.) & Since I only know about an 9 year old's vocabulary of Tagalog and I don't know many 'deep' Tagalog words, I learn new words and sayings (dialect) from my friends who have just recently moved.

So won't it seem like I'm learning 3 languages at once?
Will it be easier to learn only one language rather than more than one at the same time?

[Sorry for writing a lot .. ]
Another thing I forgot to add, I feel like I'm surrounded my all three of the languages because:

Tagalog - I speak it everyday with my friends and family.

Korean - I listen to a lot of Korean music, watch dramas (Subbed of course), and TV shows.

French - Everything is translated into french here, for example on a milk package it would say MILK and under LAIT, stuff like that.

I am very interested in learning Tagalog. Mainly to become closer with my family there in the Philippines. Also, to experience the culture by first hand going to markets to buy my own food, catching a tricycle & paying the fee myself, ect. I cannot do all this now, I do not speak Tagalog jaja.

But if there are any foreigners who have learned the language fluently, can you please share your experiences with me & yahoo answers.

First off, what drew your interest to pursue fluency in the Filipino National Language?
How did you actually learn the language itself, through a dictionary, online program?
How long did it take you to learn learn, & speak the language clearly and concisely?
Was it difficult? Is Tagalog a hard language to learn?

How has it changed your relationships with the Filipino people?
& your overall experience in The Philippines?

Your feedback is appreciated lots!

I have an LG C2000 (about a year and a half old), and i get three languages (english, french, and spanish). I am learning another language (tagalog) and want to chat on my cell phone, using yahoo chat, with the "t9 fill word function" in that language.

I have spoken to both the phone manufacterer (LG, of course) and my service provider (AT&T) and neither can help with any additional software. In the next couple of months i will be upgrading my phone, but i would like to practice in chat with this other language before that.

Does anybody have some helpful advice of where to to try to find my solution? (The best answer will likely be in enlightening me on a source for a download to my phone that will add the t9 language of tagalog, and until now is likely to be the only answer, but i am open).
To be a bit more precise in my explanation... I intended to say i already will be upgrading to ANOTHER phone. I am looking to solve it until i do so.
Rosetta Stone is actually already the way i am learning Tagalog. I happen to have a tagalog friend in yahoo chat and just want to add my communication with her as an additional way for practice. But thanks levitate15, for the extra confirmation on language learning selections...

I hope there is anyone who can translate my English to Tagalog for me.

Here it goes:

Hello Demi,
I hope you're doing okay in school and in life. I know that college is taking too much of your time and effort but it's going to be ultimately worth it at the very end! I just hope you the best and sending my regards to your studies! I think you should post more food pictures up on Facebook more often!! & Tweet more on twitter too. haha, I decide to talk to you in tagalog because I didn't want anybody to know what I'm writing but majority of your friends on Facebook are pretty much Tagalog readers LOL. Anyhow, I'm gonna get going and I hope that you're living the life! Bye! =)

Naturally, the initial culture to use the language (for example: the people of England, English) have advantage in using the language then the succeeding cultures to adopt the language.

I'm an English speaking Filipino. And I feel the only culture I have is Catholicism. Am I disadvantaged to an Englishman and this English World, until I abandon my culture? Or must I put up with the discrimination of my culture, and make me verbally & economically disadvantaged without impairing my integrity?

Or must I have an album about Economics and Catholicism to prove my point?
Note that album is a Latin word for white.

I need to look for a good high school&college.I can speak tagalog and english,just to let you know.

Why is that we, Filipinos, are not using our very own language in every different situations, such senate hearings, public speeches, forums, seminars, Q&A in every prestigious pageants here in the Philippines. Also in written format such as our leading newspapers here in the Philippines, books, signs (warning signs, traffic signs, slogans, announcements and ads). What's the sense of all of these if the one who read and listen to these are Filipinos? I know that English is very well known and spoken languages in this era, but are we gonna let other people vanish our very own language?

I am very confused right now, this questions always keep popping out in my mind everyday. SOMEONE HELP ME?

(totoo po akong pilipino, nag-englis2san lang ako para hindi matanggal ang tanong ko)

I am just a 12 year old girl from U.S. & I'm trying to pursue my acting career when I go to the Philippines. I could understand Tagalog, but I can't speak it fluently, but when I speak Tagalog I don't have an accent at all. I am really good in acting drama scenes & many more. I'm just wondering when I go to the Philippines what should I do first so I could get discovered as an actor ?
I am pretty tall for my age, but some people say I'm short. I have white skin , but I'm pretty chinky. I could sing and play the piano by ear if you need more details. If you want know how to look , just email me.

What is the Primary language Filipinos speak. I'm half filipino, & I'd like to learn the language. Is it Tagalog? or is there a different one?

I'm trying to learn to speak Tagalog and was told the best way to do that was to learn to sing some Tagalog songs. So could some one give me a few good Tagalog songs?

I would prefer songs that are clean (no cussing), Country, Love songs, Christin or Soft/Lite Rock and I would like them to be popular ether currently popular or old classic songs.

And please..
Give me both the Singer & Song name so I can search the lyrics

This is actually a spin-off from Coqui's question. He did raise some very interesting points and it's a topic deserving of our thoughts and opinions.

We all know that Filipino (our national language) is largely based on Tagalog, the prevalent language/dialect in Metro Manila and surrounding provinces. But we do have other dialects that are widely spoken by large numbers of people, like Cebuano and Ilocano.

So why Tagalog? Does it mean it is better than the others? Thank you for your answers.

I got this letter from my Uncle and my cousin wants to know what it reads but she only speaks tagalog sooo there fore the translation. Thanks for whoever helps:)

I am looking for just some outlines for writing formal and informal letters in the Tagalog language.

For example, I am giving some expressions here, kindly, translate them appropriately:

Salutation:

>>> Hi,
>>> Dear Sir/Madam,

Closings:

>>> Thanks & regards,

>>> Regards,

>>> With regards,

>>> With regards,

>>> With best wishes,

>>> With love,

>>> With affection,

... etc.

If you people of the Philippines use some specific or distinct types of greetings and salutation then, please, do give some examples here.

Maraming salamat!

Dev.

I'm Filipino, born and raised on Guam and I understand what the language means and all...but to the ears of non-Filipinos. What does our language sound like to you? Do you think it's Asian? Yes Filipinos are Asian... I want to know what people think of it as. Cause everytime I listen...it sounds normal to me because I know my national language. Please no harsh comments..I'm just wondering. Please and thanks!! :D

Here's a link to Filipino news channel containing the Filipino dialect...tell me what it sounds like :) cuz to me it sounds completely normal

Filipino engineers are known to be macho, wise/clever in all aspects of life. After their duties, smoking while in gambling and drinking with friends and talking pertain to their secret friends a young & beautiful ladies, cheating to their love one’s, sometime.
For me they are true admirable professional.
Opposite to the Filipino nurses, most of them are girly or bayot.

Hunting pure masculine boyfriend, select an engineer.

I write a lot of poetry in English and would really like to write something poetic & romantic in Tagalog for my girlfriend in PH. I've been trying to do it using translators online however I'm certain the intended message is lost or obscured in translation. I know this is something she would really appreciate so I'm determined to achieve it for her.

I'm hoping someone may be able to point me in the right direction. My poetic message must be in my own words from my own heart because my feelings for her are real ...so I have no desire to send her something someone else has written. I'm sure everyone would understand why that is so important.
:)

Thankyou in advance,

Kev

"Love is ...so many wonderful things and all those wonderful things are my babygirl!"
The poem I wrote for my Love is below. I ask that no one takes my words for their own. For these words are my feelings for my Love and as such too precious to be stolen. Right?

I've tried to translate the poem to tagalog but it just feels as though much is lost in the way I translate. Help would be most appreciated. Thankyou very much for the help so far too Beachbum and ragdefen...

------------------------
When first I saw your smile I loved the way you smiled.
When first I read about the things you do I admired you.
When first we talked I respected the way you spoke.
When first you laughed I had to laugh with you.
When first you cried I wanted to hug you.
When first you smiled AT me I melted...
and ever since I have wanted for you to smile because of me!

Now I still admire you
Now I still respect you
Now I still laugh with you
Now I still want to hug you
But now you DO smile because of me
And I smile because of YOU!
------------------------
My apologies for the late edit.

The first line of the second verse should be added as such:

Now you still smile

[and then continue with the existing verse]

Thankyou again. I do appreciate this very much. :-)

I know there are many different languages in Philippines & different dialects.

what is the tagalog translation of "school year"?

is lacking in many technical & scientific terms & is not fully developed to be considered as a language in today's standard?
