Speak Tagalog?
hi, i'm trying to learn how to speak tagalog so i can speak with my mom and friends. I know some words and sentences but i don't get other stuff like in a sentence you don't use ako (i) when your talking about yourself. like i love you. mahal kita? you don't use ako, so i would like to learn all about this please. I want someone to teach me more about it and i have asked my mom to teach me, but all she did was buy me a filipino/english dictionary because she is too busy.

ako is first person singular – in english thats "i am" so when you say I Love You your really saying – i am in love with you – in tagalog thats "ako ay nagmamahal sa iyo" too long so with the words "mahal kita" the same feeling is said. literally mahal kita is " .. love you"
You might want to take a class at your local community college that teaches Tagalog. Also, my sister purchased Rosetta Stone, a program for learning foreign languages. Lastly, you may want to join an organization that has other Philippinos as part of the group so you can learn from them as well. My sister is one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, and she is learning Tagalog to support a foreign language group. They have literature printed in Tagalog as well as DVDs and CDs in which you can listen to.
She has immersed herself in the language and is doing very well (going on her third year). She asks her friends to speak to her in Tagalog rather than English, and she even teaches her family and friends what she learns. Though Tagalog is the main language of the country of the Philippines, there are many dialects of the language depending on which providence your Mom and family are from. Wish you the best in your endeavors.
Kamusta Ka,from Australia, have alook at this website
http://www.beforeyouknowit.com there is lots of different languages on there and Tagalog is one of them.I am an Aussie married to a Pinoy for 26 years.Goodluck,Siggy.
The best way is to talk to the Filipinos a lot or go to a community of Filipinos or if you can, go to the Philippines; there you will be a good tagalog spoker within 1 month. Experience is the best teacher.
Rules in one language don’t always apply to another, and sometimes they do.
Your example of "ako" not being used in "I love you", can also sometimes be applied to English.
If I tell someone, "Give me a sandwich", I don’t use the word "you", as in, "You get me a sandwich", even though "you" is the person you’re talking to. In Tagalog, however, you would use the word "mo" (you) as in, "Bigyan mo ako ng sandwich."
Really, the only way to learn all the "rules" would have to be practical experience from talking to Tagalog speakers. You can learn a few rules from books or the internet, but nothing beats actually speaking the language.
are you from usa? if you are, remember me? I’m i’m your textmate from the philippines. you told me about your boyfriend dash?

you have to study nouns(pangalan)…(ako,ikaw,jenny,jojo,)
next is verbs(pandiwa)…example:magsuklay k(comb your hair)…
then adjectives…example:maganda ka(you are beautiful),sexy ka(you are sexy),
then adverbs..
etc….

why don’t you try to buy a 2nd yr high school book(book title:gintong pamana)…
then tell a friend to teach you or tutor..
