Question about Tagalog grammar (vocabulary)?
I am Japanese living in the Philippines and now learning the Filipino language so hard by myself. Because, unfortunately, there are no good grammar books written in Japanese are available, I have no other choice than to learn it by books written in Tagalog...
While reading a book, I came across a passage whose meaning I cannot figure out:
>Anupat magiging madali at malinaw ang pag-aaral sa alinmang bahagi o antas ng Filipino kung magkakaroon muna tayo ng sanligang kaalaman sa ponolohya o palatunugan nito.
In this pasage, "anupat" and "sanligang" are the words I don't understand and which I cannot find out even in the dictionary.
(1) anupat: I guess it is made up of 'anu + pa + at', but I can't still figure out the meaning of the whole sentece.
(2) sanligang: I guess it consists of 'isa + -ng + liga + ng', and I suppose 'sanligang kaalaman' means 'the whole knowledge' or 'total understanding'. I am still not sure of myself because I can't find out the word in the dictionary.

1) Anupa’t = could mean therefore or as a result
2) Sanligang = am not very sure about this, but liga refers to a very long distance. This must be a Tagalog word with a deep meaning or could it be possible you are referring to another word. But from the context it could be another word like sandigang which means foundation or a strong basis
Loosely translated: It could mean "The study of any part or level of Filipino would therefore be easier and clearer if we would first have a strong foundation of knowledge of its phonology or phonetics.
OR
"As a result, the study of any part or level of Filipino would be easier and clearer if we would first have a sound knowledge of its phonology or phonetics.
"anupat" is a shortened word for "ANO PO MAN AT" meaning…"in any ways" or "rather"…while "sanligang" means "in general or generally" and yes,you were right in saying "the whole knowledge"or "total understanding".
