Is Tagalog a hard language to learn?
I'm thinking of taking it in college and I'm not sure whether to or not. Has anybody taken it before or does anybody know how to speak it? Is it difficult to learn?

I’ve heard that it’s not that hard to learn. Some of my Filipino friends (who grew up only speaking English) were able to learn the language rather quickly. Tagalog uses a romanized alphabet and is not tonal (like Chinese, Vietnamese, or Thai).
Here’s some more information:

fuck that that language is hella annoying
Don’t believe otherwise but all language are hard to learn at first. So if you are interested you have to have that passion and expose your self to the literature and the culture. If you are paying for it, ask yourself, do you have a really good reason for wanting to learn, how is it going to benefit you after and how do you plan on applying it. What are the chances of dropping class if you start to struggle.
If you use any social networks. try going outside your circle, make friends with people who speak the language and also understand some english (you can help each other out). They can be of great help in your learning. No i don’t speak Tagalog, but i used the same strategy to learn a little German, I actually got invited by a good friend during a touristic visit to the country. I got to spend some time with her and her people and cought on to some basic words and sentence pretty quick and also grabbed a few german books while i was there. Google language translator, though its not entirely accurate, was a good friend too. So take it upon you if you are really interested in the language, spend some cash on flight ticket and make it a touristic visit to the Philipines, this will give you the chance to really get exposed to a the way people interact you will pick up more quickly that way. There is no exact time for how quick you learn but the more exposed you are to the language the faster you improve, both in the society or the classrooms.
I heard they have great foods too? so i hope that motivates you
