no, spanish is more useful, and you can understand a lot of tagalan if you know spanish.
are you required to learn that language? does no one from there would want to teach you? if you wanted to learn some languages, im me….im a filipina. goodluck
Yes, definitely! Try and preserve your culture as much as possible so that one day you can pass it along to the future generations. Without that oral preservation, our cultures begin to lose many important facets. Also, you may want to visit the Philippines in the future (if you don’t already), and it will help you to be able to communicate with your own people. Additionally, it is a way to strengthen ties with elders and learn about your culture in ways that cannot be expressed in English.
A great way to learn (if you cannot at home, or around friends), is to get the Rosetta Stone series. It’s a little pricey but actually is very effective in teaching the language the way we learn languages as children. Check it out (usually at a mall kiosk, or I’m sure you can look it up online). I have friends who have done this, specifically with Tagalog, as well as with other languages.
Yes, because like me( a filipina) we should use our own language
Unless you have a specific reason to learn it (talking with family, doing business), then I would spend my time learning something more useful.
u should learn to speak tagalog, especially u are born filipino.. do u have anybody where you can learn it from? learn it asap. you respect ur elders also when they find out you speak tagalog..
its easy to learn tagalog, it has a little bit of spanish in it.
It depends on you. There are many factors in wanting to learn another language. One is its usefulness… to you, personally. For example, do you plan on visiting the Philippines? Then learning it is quite useful. Do most of your family members/loved ones speak it? Then yes, if only to understand them better. Are you interested in learning about your roots, your heritage? Not only learning the language would be a step, but also learning the culture. They go hand in hand. In the end it depends on you. Ask yourself how you feel about being Filipino and not learning the language. It wasn’t your choice to be born in America, but you do have a choice now, what else to learn. And that goes for everyone too. No matter where one is born, some will find the need to learn another language, even a totally different one, because of their life’s circumstances. Wish you luck. And if you do decide, tagalog is not only an easy language to learn but a very beautiful one at that.
