How long do you think I will be able to speak Tagalog?
I am going to move to Cavite,Philippines for 7 months and I really want to speak Tagalog. I am 13 and I have already been exposed to Tagalog and I can't speak and understand a little, but I haven't leared all of it yet. How long do you think maybe I will be able to learn Tagalog?

If you start immersing yourself in any language everyday you will get the hang of it. You wont get to know all the words but enough to get you around and talk with the locals. Start by speaking it to somebody who understands and can speak back to you in Tagalog. You’ll be fine. I immersed myself in French…I dont know all the words but I can go around.
I really dont know how long it will take but i suggest that you talk to someone who understand tagalog to have some practice. And also read some pilipino comics, thats what i did when i came to the phillipines when i am still 5 or 6. I can speak tagalog but i dont know at what are it started, just forget. First practice the basic tagalog words need for communication like good morning – gandang umaga, opo and so one.
its easy to learn tagalog especially if you are w/ people who speaks tagalog! maybe you can leran tagalog w/in 3 months or less!

It depends. I’ve taught 5 guys how to speak Tagalog. Some of them took about 6 months (mostly european kids who already had 2-4 languages under their belt) to be conversational while others never got beyond the odd phrase (a british kid who grew up in Dubai who only knew how to speak English)..
hmm, if you work really hard, you’ll know a great deal during those 7 months.

It has great lessons for learning Tagalog. lol, just be aware, I chat with my fiancee, her sisters, cousins, and friends, and everyone of the spells things differently. Luckily they pronounce them the same.

If you have some exposure already, that is going to help you a lot. I would try to learn as much vocabulary as you can before you go. Once you are there, talk in Tagalog as much as you can. Since you are young, I think you would pick it up very fast. Usually younger people have an easier time to process language. The problem that you will have is that Filipino, being very kind people, will try to speak English to accommodate you as much as possible. However, if you show an interest in learning Tagalog, they will be happy to teach you.
I have found the Filipino people to be among the most caring, happy, loving people in the world. As an American, I always feel welcomed by the people of the Philippines. Enjoy your stay in Cavite!!!!
I’d say a year to speak fluent basic tagalog.
I learned tagalog myself when I was about 3 years old, I stayed there for about 6 monthswith my father, but I am British born.
I remember playing with all my childhood friends in our subdivision, I guess that’s how I picked up the language, I even suprised myself that I can actually speak tagalog without even taking lessons hehe.
The younger you are, the easier it is for you to learn a new language. I suggest you stay in the Philippines for a year and speak a lot of tagalog. You will pick it up in no time.
use it everyday and make people talk to you in the filipino language. just be patient, youre the only one who can really answer your question

I dunno yo, but I myself bought one of those language cds and whenever I have time off from work, I learn a little bit each day. It’s pretty easy if you keep at it plus my girlfriend is helping with it too!
7 months is good enough if you really work hard to learn the language
