How is it that the Virgin Mary was referred to as "Ginoong Maria" in tagalog translation which a male gender.?
In the Tagalog translation of the Holy Rosary, the Blessed Virgin Mary was referred to as "Ginoong Maria" which is in my opinion incorrect. There must be a mistake in the translation because there was no such male reference in the original hebrew, greek, aramaic or english texts. Some female saints have been attributed to the male gender in the past because of their extraordinary powers but with the Virgin Mary there never was.

as far as i know, the words in tagalog (that are non-spanish derivative) are not gender-specific. i think "ginoong" would be an appropriate adjective then as it would apply to both male and female…?
I get the impression the title is meant with honor, despite the male only connotation. Perhaps it is a small step for the respect of her femininity?
