How hard would it be for me to learn Filipino?
I was born in Bacolod, Philippines. I moved to the US when I was eleven, and I speak fluent english and ilonggo/hiligaynon (the dialect spoken where I lived). I would like to learn to speak Filipino, but how hard would it be for me to master the language?

Since you can speak fluent english and ilonggo, I don’t think it will be that hard for you to learn filipino.
Firstly, English and Filipino languages follow almost the same sentence pattern. Although there are a bit of differences, once you are used to forming the past, present and future tenses of the verbs, it will be an easy one to construct sentences.
Secondly, ilonggo is a dialect in the philippines. The words in philippine dialect are almost the same as its counterpart word in the filipino language. [example, the cebuano dialect for evening is 'gabii' while the filipino word for that is 'gabi'.]
Thirdly, since you come from the philippines, you might know people who live here or maybe even your own parents and family members. Filipinos usually know how to speak filipino language even if they do not come from Luzon or native filipino-speaking cities. If you parents or some of your friends know filipino, you can ask them to speak filipino in your presence. Getting used to the accent will be a big help. They can also help in correcting your grammar!
Lastly, if you are really interested, as I believe you are, it will be an easy one for you! Good luck!
