I am half Filipino and I was born in CA...At my high school some guys make fun of or repeat what I say [in an accent]. how could I have worse English than everyone else who was not born in US? Is it because that I'm do't talk a lot? Any Suggestions? I feel so stupid... I always here this question: "You are born here, why is your English bad"?
Also I have a low vocabulary but I trying so hard to improve.
Thank you and please don't be so harsh. ^_^

from a slow-relaxed-and-steady front, to a-fast-and-rapid-dissemination-behind-your-back talk?

English Speaking Filipinos: How familiar are you with the Trojan War that concluded with the destruction of Troy?

The coordinator for the grandparents mass tomorrow wants to greet every single grandparent in different languages and she chose me to speak in Tagalog. I've been in America for a couple of years now and I was shocked when I couldnt translate the paragraph that well! I tried using google translate but it has wrong grammar. So I really need help translating this:
"Good morning Mr. Chambers, Mrs. Sergi, faculty, students, and a very special welcome to our grandparents. This morning we reflect and give thanks to God for our grandparents. It is through our grandparents' sacrifices and struggles, that we, their grandchildren, have been blessed with better life. We give thanks for their love. We thank them for being great role models and for showing us what it means to give unselfishly. We have learned from them the honor in working hard, the pride in family traditions, and the value in prayer. Thank you to all our grandparents for enriching our lives and for being here with us this morning."
I hope you guys wont give me big or deep words that i wont be able to pronounce tomorrow. and its ok if you change some sentences as long as it still expresses the message

I am a Filipino and am taking my M.A. now. Despite my good educational attainment, I can't speak English fluently as the native Americans do.I want to be excellent on it..

How do you say the filipino sentence for "I love you" I know love=ibigin but i don't know how to pronounce it.If you could give me a site for translations and pronunciations i would apprieciate it

At least translate one of them. Its important since Im making a card for my non-english speaking grandma (lola):

1.With loving thoughts and memories of the wonderful mother you've always been,

2.With heartfelt gratitude for the special grandmother you are,

3.With warm wishes for you to enjoy your day and remember how very much you're loved.

Im a 14 yr old Filipino and Im currently a senior. Believe it or not, I learned english by merely watching American cartoons at the age of 7.
But the problem is, I cant seem to use deep words. I can only use the simplest form of the words and I can only remember them AFTER im done speaking. For example, I know the word 'comprehend' but instead I'll just automatically say 'understand'.
In my school, we only speak english in The English subject and maybe also in PHYSICS(but rely) so I cant really practice. PLEASE HELP ME..

Being Filipino, I grew up speaking tagalog but because of school, I've almost completely forgotten how to speak it. I can still understand a good chunk of it though. How about any of you? How do you feel about it? Its VERY embarassing for me and I kick myself for it

I don't speak much tagalog, but I'm learning. Last year I recorded "Buong Buhay Ko" by learning it phonetically... my filipino friends said I did pretty well. Now I'd like to learn another especially for my gf, so I can sing it to her when I visit the philz this Fall.. Does anyone have a suggestion for a song that expresses my appreciation of her? I don't want anything too deep (we're in a new relationship.. I don't want to scare her by saying anything too emo.. lolz). I'd also hope to find printed lyrics and a translation, so any help is appreciated!

This girl I like is from the Philippines and speaks fluent Tagalog. Today we were passing notes and writing in different languages. In Tagalog she wrote: Landi si Tanner. Can someone please translate this? p.s. Tanner is my name so I guess just translate the landi si.

I heard the humor that the song "Kahit Isang Saglit" (which is a OPM, Original Pilipino Music) was originally written by Galileo Galilei... I think it's real title have a word 'heart'... Well I didn't memorised it ^^ If the humor is real... Can you give me the real lyrics of it?

This is something I've always wondered.

a friend of mine was talking to me, then before he logged off he said magandang ga bi what does that mean?

Can someone please translate to me this from Filipino ?
"kumusta naman ang flirt na yun?"
It was said in a teasing way (but joking) and i want to know what exactly does it mean in English.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you !

if all the population of Indonesia began speaking in Portuguese wherever they went, given that they remain Muslims and that their economy remains more developed than the Philippines?

What then would the English speaking Filipinos identify the factor for their state?
i.e. What is the determinism?
Popslove, the funny thing is you haven't even considered your own grammar. I couldn't even understand, let alone get a doctor to help me understand your crap. Not worth my time and money.

Hello everyone. For the past few months, I've been studying "Tagalog" which is the language of the Philippines in case you didn't know. I recently picked up "Pimsleur's Tagalog" and I'm progressing along fine. I didn't want this to be my ONLY method for learning, so I looked up some other methods.

I've read everywhere (including here on Yahoo! Answers) that conversing with your family/friends in Tagalog will help you pick up the language fast. Now, I find this hard because I don't even know what to say! My vocabulary isn't that broad and whenever they speak, I can only pick out key words and sometimes I can't even pick up any words.

Any suggestions? Should I finish my studies and get proficient before I start practicing? This is my first time actually committing to learning a language so any tips would help.

i already know the basics but i want to know things to say to my boyfriend cuz he only speaks Tagalog, like something really nice and sweet but i dont know what. so please help me if you can! thankz

I'm ethnic Filipino borned and raised in the UK, I got a German girlfriend and I'm planning on taking her to Manila for a visit. We looked it up and decided to stay at the Manila Peninsula.
Now, I know how dangerous it is for everybody in the Philippines. I don't mind snatchings and being robbed, I'm worried about kidnappings and corrupt cops.
I'm not really concerned for myself as I can blend in the crowd easily with my dark skin (unless I start trying to speak Filipino). I'm concerned about my girlfriend, who happens to be caucasian, 25 years old, fiery blonde hair and a hot piece of ass. In other words, she would stick out like a sore thumb when mixed with Filipinos.
My question is... how safe is it really in Makati? Does the area have better security since thay have all those classy hotels and malls there? Is it even safe walking on the sidewalk around 9-10pm?
Just Makati, we're not planning on visiting Malate, Binondo, Buendia or any of those tourist unfirendly spots.

I am a bit confused how Pinoys use the word dialect. Dialect in the science of linguistic means a slight variation in the same language. For example British English and American English are two dialects of the same language- it means slightly different grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation but it is English nonetheless.
A dialect must be "of something".
For example in Butuan and Cebu they speak Cebuano but there si a slightly different vocabulary. Same in Leyte. So , one can say that Leyte people speak a different dialect of Cebuano from Butuan people.

However Cebuano, Tagalog and Ilocano are not dialects; they are languages- they have their own literature and TV stations and newspapers and are generally not understood by other speakers.

Vernacular is a regional variation of a dialect- as in different parts of a big city people may have a slightly different vocabulary and pronuncuation.

I think that the Spaniards humiliated the natives by not seeing the local languages as of their own right and simply calling them "dialectos", but they are not.

I keep seeing quite educated people here and at work ( I work with highly educated Pinoys) that make that mistake all the time.

Is this information news to you? If not, how many languages are spoken in RP, vs. How many dialects?

Considering that I am a U.S. citizen, though never been in the U.S. ever, which state should I consider moving into? I have work experiences in carpet laying, housing agent/realtor, carpenter, plumbing, electrician, cook helper, Project manager & coordinator. I can also speak Tagalog(Philippine language), Japanese, and of course English.

Ikaw ay aking mahal pusot kaluluwa sayo ko lang ibibigay ang pag ibig kong ito na para lang sayo bakit sinayang mo ngayon kahit ikay mahal pilit lilimutin pagkat akoy na sasaktan paasahin lang ako pag katapos ay ano iiwan lang ako
