My knowledge of Tagalog is limited to simple phrases like "salamat" and "mahal kita". I'm really curious how calendar years are said in the Filipino language. Thank you for your answers.

Like in the Philippines, how you call someone like an older cousin or sister Ate (whatever her name is). I was born in the Philippines and speak fluent tagalog, and me and my family has always spelled it Ate. But my friend wasn't born there and isn't really connected with the language insists that it's Ateh. I just noticed that some of her family spell it Ateh too. How is it really spelled, Ate or Ateh?
I can speak english, i'm not talking about ate as in "eating"... :/

I can read a sentence, but other than speaking exercises at school, I never have to come up with sentences quickly in a conversational manner. When I do worksheets, I have time to think.

I don't want to Skype with strangers, but I'm hoping someone out there has tips.

Also, I learned Filipino by watching soap operas, so any good Spanish soaps available online? BBC mundo is a bit too much for me.

I'm Australian Filipino and cannot speak Tagalog at all,just want to know how the taxi drivers there are. Also would they be willing to drive you around if you made arrangements with them for example you needed to go somewhere and you gave them a call would they pick you up?

Do you think that Filipino-American parents should teach their children Tagalog as well as English? Some parents don't due to the fact that they don't want their children to be confused in school. Would you ever do this?

the only thing i will say on this subject is that i was born on the philippines, moved to the states when i was 3 and learned english through watching tv. i've grown up speaking tagalog and english and never had a problem telling the difference between the two in school.

It's not just pronunciation either, because ive met american filipinos who grew up here and can pronounce their "F's" but they choose to say Pilipino...

People tell me that Tagalog/Filipino language sounds as if it were the Chinese of Southeast Asia, meaning it sounds kinda like Chinese, but for SE Asia. I sorta understand what they mean though, because the "aw" in a word is pronounced "ao", and "ay" in a word is pronounced "ai" (like the word laway. (pronounced LAO-WAI)) It was even mistaken for Japanese once or twice (it happened to me before, don't know about others.) For example, it has the "ah" sounds, "ai" sounds, "eh" sounds, & "oh" sounds. I dunno though, what do you think? I completely disagree with those statements that it sounds Spanish. In my opinion, that's only because of the different Spanish vocab. If anything, we have more Chinese vocabulary/Chinese sounding words then Spanish (we have words originating from Hokkien, Fujianese, Cantonese, etc.) I don't know though. What do you think? Does Tagalog/Filipino=Chinese of Southeast Asia, or sound similar to Chinese/Japanese? Please help!

Sorry if I sound like I'm stereotyping a race but Filipinos are just racist, arent they? I'm half Filipino and half black and I can understand and speak some Tagalog. I look more black than Filipino. Anyways, I was shopping at a CVS pharmacy for make-ups and these two Filipinas were talking about me that I look so fat, ugly, so black, and that I might steal in the store because I'm black. To their surprise, I come up to them and say right into their faces, "If you have something to say, say it right in front of my face!". I've been through this situation too before when I went to the Philippines with families and really the Filipinos their are even more racist.

I was contacted and offered help with the Filipino language if I added the person contacting me to my favorite list. I can't remember how you add some one to your favorite list? I stopped doing that when my e- mails became too many.

I want to know these phrases in tagalog because if I am having a 3 way conversation somewhere and if I want to talk to the person next to me but not the other person, then I dont want them to know what I am saying. Because I could be talking about the other person. Ok, well hope I can get answers!

I'm currently studying Korean. I know around 50 something words and can compose common sentences.

Like where's the milk? There is the supermarket.

So how many words do I have to learn first so I can speak a language.
