it is from the filipino language [ its in tagalog ] the frase is
mahal kita.

Could someone teach me the basics of tagalog or a website that i can learn it easily for free? I'm a filipina born in the united states so the only language i know is english and a little bit of Japanese....My parents were born in the philipines and speak tagalog and another language from there.
They speak tagalog often when they're talking to eachother and they speak fluent english, so i understand a little bit of what they're saying. I want to actually learn the basics of the language so i may understand and "surprise" them by speaking some tagalog myself.
I live in washington state so basicly the only language i need to speak is english, but this is a self interest thing...
I want something easy to understand and learn for a preteen (i'm 12)...
I'm focusing more on learning Japanese though..//_-'
Thanks!

Pangit ng ugali mo pangit ka na nga.,

I am half American and half Filipino. My mother is completely fluent in both English and Bisaya and is willing to teach me the language. However, we do not know how to go about this. Where should we start? How do we follow through with it? What are some teaching methods that she should use?

I am an amateur writer and i want to start here in my own country (Philippines), i just want to know what sort of book would you like read or will you even be interested in reading a book (novel) written in Tagalog at all?

I really don't necessarily need to learn to speak it, but I would like to understand it since I'm around Filipino people at work. I'm always wondering what they're saying ;p.

Anyway, is it very difficult to learn to understand it? How long would it take for me to start picking up phrases? Anyone know of some sites? I've always wanted to learn a new language so I would find this interesting.

After all Spanish is part of our heritage. It can be an option to learn for students in high school or college. We already have Spanish words in our language, we have a head start.

One of the advantages of Filipino workforce in international market is the command English language why not expand the resume and qualifications of our overseas workers, Spanish certainly is the second most sought after language, next to English.
I did not say change the official language to Spanish - I merely suggested adding Spanish.
Currently we have English and Filipino as official languages.
1) Another clarification - official language is not the same as national language.
2) Spanish is indeed the second most sought after language in international market, why what do you think is?
3) I presented Spanish as an option not a replacement.

Want to learn this language because I live in Philippines. I can only speak in English at the moment.

i am a fan of tagalog pocketbooks since high school, and i used to be a scriptwriter during my high school days, as of the moment i have my manuscript with me for a longest time and realized that i have to share this with other people who are fascinated and a big fan of tagalog pocketbooks...kindly help me to find a good publisher who are willing to give chance for a new writer...thank you...here's my email address ilyn1058@yahoo.com

Is Filipino or Tagalog complicated to learn? I catch onto languages pretty quickly, so do you think I could learn a fair amount of Filipino or Tagalog in like...6 months if I studied it regularly? Is its grammar similar to Spanish, or is it like...very different? Input pleaseeee. Thanks

IM CURIOUS
OPPS>. OWN LANGUAGE>. NOT ONLY>. SRRY THE QUUESTION IS "DO FILIPINO PEOPLE HAVE THEIR ONLY LANGUAGE?"

example, Pilipino language is the standardized form of Filipino language

I moved to the philippines and I can't seem to find anyone in my school to go to lunch or recess with. I can't speak tagalog so do you think they would be sad if they have to speak it all the time? I'm from the U.S.

I have a Co-Worker who doesn't consider other peoples opinion but who likes to consider hers even if her opinions suck and are veiled with errors. I don't like her, she's so arrogant and she thinks that she knows everything and when it comes to our written reports, she always inspects what I've done and when she sees something that she doesn't like, she gets mad and then tries to change everything. I don't know what to do with this "Fucking Visayan Filipino LOSER", and plus she's really starting to get on my nerves, she thinks she's so smart but when it comes to VOCABULARY, her brain is as small as an ant, and not to mention if she doesn't have any clue about anything that's got something to do with the task, she always resort to my help, I hate people like her. So tell me, what would you do if you PRETTY MUCH encounter "ONE OF THE PHYSICAL EMBODIMENTS OF EVERYTHING THAT YOU LOATHE? What would you do in this kind of situation? Should I just listen to her stupid opinions and nod?

Naturally, the initial culture to use the language (for example: the people of England, English) have advantage in using the language then the succeeding cultures to adopt the language.

I'm an English speaking Filipino. And I feel the only culture I have is Catholicism. Am I disadvantaged to an Englishman and this English World, until I abandon my culture? Or must I put up with the discrimination of my culture, and make me verbally & economically disadvantaged without impairing my integrity?

Or must I have an album about Economics and Catholicism to prove my point?
Note that album is a Latin word for white.

please help me..this is due tommorow.
fur those who know jose rizal and his novels, and fur those who can speak tagalog, puwede mag-answer ng tagalog. mas maganda nga yun eh.

I want to learn Tagalog, the official language of the Phillipines because I'm half Filipino and half American. I'm hoping that there's some free complete download of a program so that I can learn it because my mom also speaks it. And she can just corret me if I say something wrong..... Please Help!!!!!!

I am Filipino, and my extended family speaks Tagalog [not my immediate family] I usually only see them around holidays, and only the older generations speak Tagalog [none of their children, so my cousins don't speak it]
I talked to my grandfather about wanting to learn it, and he said its useless because everyone in the Philippines speaks English anyways. [he didn't teach my father either]
I saw that on some of the websites I go to that a good amount of the people speak Tagalog, and if I wanted to practice I could probably practice in the groups centered around speaking in Tagalog.
However, apart from people online, is it worth my time to learn the language? It seems that in a few years the language will really not have any use, since the number of people who speak it are depleting.
Do you think I should learn it anyways?
note: I moved this from the language section to here, because I figured this section might be better >___>

I think this is the perfect spot to post my article. Please understand is not my intention to discriminate any kind of race or culture and sorry for my broken English.
The United States dominates the Anglo music when talking "business" as Mexico does with Latin music. All the big label companies are here and in order to make money they have to sell and produce whatever the "new generation" is listening to. So the question is what teens likes? If you ask a teenager in the UK there are many that likes punk but again what's going on in the US is the key. If you ask an American teenager, "Hip-Hop is cool" go to a teen school party and you will see, there is not room for long hair rocker guys or something else. Wear your white frame glasses and a Bling-Bling and you will get all the girls attention. That's cool for them, hip -hop is cool today and will sell very well. It comes from a culture that was treat very bad in America many years ago and they work hard to be on the top of everything, sport, music and politics as well. Today North America teenagers listen, dress, speak and acts following that model whatever they are white, Latin, Pilipino, Asian... Why? Because is cool! So that’s why rock-metal died. If you want to "fit in" make sure your iPod is full of hip hop and your pants are falling down to your knees. That’s what’s going on United Sates today and I don't see will change much on the next 10 years, but who knows?
“Rock died” is just an expression, refers to “is not popular anymore”. Rock will remain for ever.
My research is base on charts, radios and what music is on nightclubs.
For the record, I used to play rock on nightclubs, was cool! Now nobody wants that anymore. DJ “Bling-Bling” took over :)

well i know that spanish go to the romance language or something like that and i always wonder where tagalog or filipino go to since it has a little bit of spanish

I'm not talking about "mano po", the cultural sign of respect. I mean the religous way of saying it, as if asking God to bless me. But I just want "bless me" and not some other similar phrase. If there is a short way of saying it, that would be wonderful. I'd like it short, but definitely correct.
what does the "nyo" mean? because someone also told me it was just "Pagpalain ako." I know po is a sign of respect though.
